Credit and debit cards are a true necessity in today's world. * Safety: Credit and debit cards are MUCH safer than cash. Why? These cards leave an electronic trail that proves you paid... in case the merchant disputes or denies that you have. If items you bought prove to be defective, misrepresented, or are not delivered, your credit supplier will help you get your money back! * Convenience: Credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere. You do not need to carry around a lot of cash every time you go shopping offline. If you want to shop online and have your items delivered directly to your door (instead of searching offline and not finding them), you must have credit or debit cards. * Bargains: Online or offline, when great deals come along, credit cards allow you to snap them up and to pay them off over time. Online, credit cards are THE way to pay and they allow you to get discounted rates and offers. If you pay off your credit card balances, you can get some great savings and incredible bargains! When things go wrong, credit and debit cards can help them to
go right. * Emergency: In emergencies, there is nothing better than having a credit card with lots of available credit. Emergencies do not always wait for your paycheck / deposits to arrive into your debit card account. However, if credit card networks are down (which happens), debit cards will still give you access to your money. * Theft Protection: If cash is stolen, it is GONE! Thieves just spend it until it is gone and there is nothing you can do to stop it (even if the bills are marked). If credit or debit cards are stolen, future transactions can easily be traced. Plus you can cancel your cards by making a phone call, making them instantly unusable. * Theft Protection: Every time you open your wallet, you show the world how much cash you have. If you are "loaded" with cash, this is an invitation to thieves. Yet credit and debit cards all look the same. No one can look at them and know your credit limit. So you can easily use them without attracting undue attention. For credit cards only, you get what you pay for... and sometimes
more! * Membership Rewards: Most credit cards suppliers run membership rewards program. For every purchase made on the credit card, you receive certain rewards points calculated based on the amount spent. After a certain accumulation of points, you can barter those "rewards points" for goods, services, etc. * Free Insurance: Some credit card companies offer "free" (paid for by the fees you pay them!) insurance. This free insurance is often travel related: airfare-hotel cancellation insurance, lost baggage insurance, travel accident insurance, etc. This varies widely between credit suppliers: so be sure to read the fine print. * Travel Discounts: If you travel, you will find that many airlines, car rental agencies, hotels, shops, and other merchants offer discounts when you use their credit card to pay for your purchases. Many of these merchants offer "co-branded credit cards" (their store credit card) which entitles you to even more discounts. * Economies of Scale: Credit card suppliers are constantly "cutting deals" with other merchants and institutions where genuine bargains can be offered to their members. Savings result because these merchants know that many in the group will take advantage of the offer and the volume of sales offset the reduction in price. * Cash Back: Some credit card suppliers offer a "cash back" option where you receive a certain percentage (about 1%) back if you charge more than a certain amount within a certain time. If you pay off your credit card balance each month, you receive the full benefit of getting the little bit cash back! Cash back sounds great... but it is just a "sneaky" way to get you to sign up for these cards. |
