GOOD KARMA HEALTH TIP:
"When Adversity is Written Into Your Life Contract"

From the Emailbag: "If a person had written in their life contract to experience a life of harsh poverty for most of their adult life (ie. as in always being broke, having hard, low paying jobs, and constant financial emergencies, etc), then doesn't this type of person just set themselves up for frustration and disappoinment when they ask the universe for a truly abundant life? In other words, in reality, is there is no such thing as Equal Opportunity in the Universe of Co-Creation?"

This Chinese Proverb explains the spiritual cause and purpose of adversity: "A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a person perfected without trials." As it says in the Bible: "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven... A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance."

A common misconception about adversity is if you strive to live a karma free life by "doing everything right", nothing bad can happen to you. This is not true. Adversity helps us appreciate happiness just as darkness helps us to know light or good helps us to recognize evil.

Adversity is just a part of the cycle of experience on Earth. In the universe where everything happens by prior agreement, if we experience constant cycles of adversity, then it is because we have not learned the lessons that this cycle has to teach us. Until we do, adversity will cling to us until the pain makes us mend our ways - the very ways that have attracted the adversity to us to begin with.

The primary way that we attract adversity to us is by how we think, what we say, and how we act. If we always put our focus on how things will go wrong or on how we have been wronged, things will continue to be exactly the way we do not want them to be. If we are always speaking in an unending stream of total negativity about our wrongs, our wounds, and our woes, then that is what we will get more of. If we always act like disaster is about to strike, then it will.

Simply put, we get what we expect as communicated in what we always think about, say, and do. This is the source of the "Equal Opportunity in the Universe of Co-Creation and All Possibilities".

The opportunity for manifestation is equal for everyone: what is unequal is everyone's response to this great opportunity. So look at your thoughts, words, and actions and be sure that they are not making you your own worst enemy (see
"Running the Gauntlet").

GOOD KARMA PROSPERITY TIP:
"The One Thing That Money Just Cannot Buy"

"I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's
gone, All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity...
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea,
All we do crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see,
Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky...
It slips away, all your money won't another minute buy,
Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind."
(Lyrics to the song "Dust in the Wind" by Kerry Livgren)

"All your money won't another minute buy..." Time is the only thing that money cannot buy. Consider the wisdom of these words about the true value of time from Jennifer Green:
"To realize the value of ONE YEAR,
ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH,
ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK,
ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR,
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE,
ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND,
ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND,
ask the person who was an Olympic silver medalist.
That is why it is so important to treasure every moment that you have, especially during your happy days. For in the days of adversity, revisiting your pleasant memories can help you to get through the hard times much more easily. For happy memories serve to remind you that life can be beautiful, that adversity does not last forever, and that there are many reasons to live for better days... that always do come.

In the immortal words of Spencer Johnson: "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present!" The only real prosperity you have is this moment now. You are a true success if you can "get up in the morning, go to bed at night, and inbetween have done whatever you wanted to do."

GOOD KARMA RELATIONSHIP TIP:
"When Someone You Love Discovers They are Dying"

From the Emailbag: "What is the best way to inspire and help loved ones who have been diagnosed with terminal illness and they are already saying 'I'm dying...' (in essence accepting their 'fate')?"

Doctors can hand us death sentences... but we do not have to accept them. According to many doctors, I was not supposed to live past the age of 21. I was also supposed to be blind in one eye and to be so incapacitated by llness that, if by some miracle I did live to adulthood, I would never be able to work. I am decades older, free of glasses, in pretty good health (& getting better), and I work all the time.

Doctors are not gods and do not have all the answers. When they hand us a death sentence, what they are really telling us is they cannot help us... so we must, at this point, decide to help ourselves. Life threatening illnesses mean that we have to look at the spiritual issues we have been avoiding if we truly want to get better.

If we choose not to, if we accept that we are "dying", it is most likely that the illness was answer to a prayer to leave a life we could no longer endure and so we are on track to die. If we want to live, then it is up to us to look for answers. No one can look for answers for us.

No one can "fight the fight" for someone else... each one must choose their own life path. People have to want to live and if they do not no want to, no one can keep them in life. So when a loved one discovers that they are dying, especially when they have accepted the death sentence decreed by doctors or experts, all we can do is let that person know how much we love them, how much they have brought to our lives, and how much we will miss them when they are gone.

"EFT: When Your Emotions are Out of Control"
http://www.healpastlives.com/pastlf/exercise/exemfree.htm

Among the first things to be lost in times of adversity are calm and cool emotions. When tragedy strikes, it hits our emotions hardest of all. This tends to be aggravated even further by the dizzying pace of change in modern life. Did you know that in the past 100 years there has been more progress technologically than in the past 1,000? Did you know that the most rapid growth has been in the past 20 years?

The very technology that has made our lives more comfortable has also kept us insulated from the fragility of life. Contract a major illness, get forced out of a job, lose a loved one... and the hardships of life on Earth hit with full force. It is hard enough to keep up when everything goes right... it is impossible to keep up when things go terribly wrong.

Emotions that in the simpler "fight or flight world" served to keep you safe... in the non stop 7 by 24 world can keep you in a permanent state of anxiety. The signs of this are common in the news: people acting out of control in high traffic conditions (road rage) or in airport snafus (air rage) and doing things they would never do in "normal life".

Emotions meant to help you run away from problems often become the problems themselves. Fortunately, the problems that technology creates, technology can solve. One remedy to the traumas of modern life is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Based in principles of ancient energy healing, EFT can break the cycle of runaway emotions that keep you spending energy on problems instead of on solutions.

EFT breaks the circuit of runaway emotions by allowing them to leave your system with love. The goal of EFT is to give you breathing room where you can think and act more clearly. The goal is NOT to "get rid of" emotions but to acknowledge and honor them so you can become centered. EFT only works in the space where you love yourself.

The more you can truly love yourself - especially while in the grip of your turbulent emotions - the greater the release EFT will give you. For the only way past your pain is to go through it. EFT is a very quick and effective way to move through your pain and into the place where greater joy and awareness are to be found.

KARMA IN THE NEWS:
"Triumph from the Tragedy of the Ripper Murders"

The past is still present... even in the present day news.

"The story of Jack the Ripper, the well-dressed serial killer who brutally killed five prostitutes amid the fog of Victorian London, has intrigued crime buffs in the century since the murders took place. The case was never solved. Now crime writer Patricia Cornwell is certain she has found the true culprit: Walter Sickert, an Impressionist painter who walked the same East London streets as Jack the Ripper, and produced a series of paintings of murdered prostitutes.

Cornwell has spent $4 million on her obsession, delving into Sickert's life and work in a quest for evidence tying him to five Ripper murders committed in the East London district of Whitechapel in 1888. "That is so serious to me that I am staking my reputation on this," she said. 'If somebody proves me wrong, I will feel horrible about it, but I will look terrible.' She is planning to continue hunting for physical proof of the Ripper's identity - not for his sake, but for his victims' sake.

Recalling the unvisited, untended graves of the five young prostitutes, Cornwell said: "They have a right to have justice after 113 years. They have a right for someone to care about them for once & not to care about him. He doesn't deserve... to have his art celebrated."

Despite Cornwell's obsession, she said she started out saying to herself: "Don't do this to me... I don't want to go down this road. I don't want to solve this case..." So what would make someone spend so much time, money, and effort on what is long past? What would make someone do it when at best no one will really care and at worst it could severely damage a multi-million dollar writing empire?

The simple answer is past lives. Without intruding on her privacy, Ms Cornwell had a past life connection to the Jack the Ripper. The pain of that past life connection drove her in this life to compensate in a dramatic way. To be driven to learn about crime and murder and to use that drive to create a mountain of abundance as a protection against the poverty that was the immediate cause of her past life pain.

That is how past lives work... to push us in directions in the present life that we would not have normally undertaken. It would have been so much easier for Cornwell to have done nothing... and for her to stop now in the face of critics who dismiss her theories as "rubbish". Good for you, Ms Cornwell, to have seized triumph from the tragedy of the Ripper murders... and to see justice done at long last.

KARMA AT THE MOVIES:
"Saving Grace: Mastering the Challenge of Adversity"

"When her husband jumped out of a plane without a parachute, Grace Trevethen knew life would get tough... but she had no idea just how tough. Left with a manor on the Cornish coast, a mountain of debt and dozens of creditors on her heels, she is about to lose everything... until she gets an idea. Why not use her green thumb to plant a cash crop and pay off her debts? Or watch her life go up in smoke..."

There are fewer things in the universe harder to overcome than sudden, unexpected financial hardship. Grace learns the hard way that "when the going gets tough, the tough better get going." And there are better ways of avoiding financial ruin than selling drugs... as she discovers when she turns her tale of woe into a best selling novel.

Her life experiences in this movie shows us that we can grow equally well from pain and joy. Although pain may be much more motivating in the short run, in the long run, it is joy that leads us into the fullest expression of the greatest part of ourselves.

In her old life, Grace was trapped in a loveless marriage, using only a fraction of her abilities, and unmotivated to change. In her new life, a passionate (if less safe) relationship and more rewarding work forced her into "becoming all she could be"... including being happy!

After Grace triumphs over her financial adversity, she admits all that happened to her "helped her to grow". To grow both into greater knowledge of herself and into greater service to the world. It is this growth that is the point of all our experience in the worlds of karma.

The tragedies befalling us can become "the best decisions we never made"... even if we cannot accept that while we are going through them. The choice of how we act or react to them... is ours. For when it comes to life, happiness is optional but growth is required. If you learn nothing else from Grace but to "bloom where you are planted", it was well worth the time spent watching this totally hilarious movie!

Inspirational Quote for the Month:

"This life is not righteousness, but growth in righteousness; not health but healing; not being but becoming; not rest but exercise. We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it. The process is not yet finished, but it is going on. This is not the end, but it is the road. All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified."
(Martin Luther)

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going."(Anonymous)

"Don't be afraid of adversity - you may well be surprised by what you can do." (anon@youaretheauthor.com)

Good Deed for the Month:
Children in Adversity (now offline)

This site "shares it's knowledge, research information, and practitioner experience to promote a better understanding of children, their development, their capacities and vulnerabilities, and the risks they face in highly detrimental settings such as refugee and displaced children, children in armed conflict, working children, children and family incapacitation, and children in deleterious institutional settings."

This site will "increase understanding of the resilience and coping strategies of children exposed to highly stressful situations, as well as the risks they face. Recognition of children's competencies can encourage a move away from a focus on child pathology and towards a recognition of children as social actors with valid insights and skills. This in itself can lead to better child protection."
